This is such a great graphic! I often wondered why high school students don't get "recess" time like elementary school students. After one class period (42 minutes) of sitting, they are ready to be up and expending some energy!
I hear that! By the time students reach high school - they should be implementing exercise and activity into their daily routine. When I was in high school, many of my friends who weren't involved in team sports, lacked the will power.
Hi Casey, I am equally intrigued by all these facts, which leave me with a final rhetorical question. How can anyone (government or educator) refuse to see that healthy bodies lead to healthy minds? Children who are healthy have more energy, stimulation, etc. to devote to studies. Thanks for sharing.
Darla - I ask myself that every time the topic comes up (and not just because I'm a PE teacher!) I think there are are educators who are on board with students getting enough exercise during the day. However, I think many current educators and government officials remember their PE classes from the past which were quite different from the way it is taught today.
